Roman Settlement Returns To Homestead

The house down the way from me has sold twice in the time that we all bought our nice comfortable four & five bedroomed executive homes in this nice little bit of old England.  We are up at the highest point of what was a hilly roman encompment before it became a farm of some prestige and size.  This house was plot 422 of an eventual 500.  It does seem a huge area of housing, but looking at the modern homes being rushed up today, they could have put over 1000 on the same sized fields.

Looking into the history of the area it is obvious that some very important folk held this land from the Doomsday book onwards.  It seems odd to think that only Roman settlers used this land before the developer bought thousands of acres -it was just farmland for the period in between.
